Wednesday Feature: MOTHERHOOD the film

If you are my friend on Facebook or a fan of CityMommy Seattle, you may have seen my countless posts about a great movie that is coming out in select cities this week – MOTHERHOOD.

Last week I joined some of the most fabulous mommy bloggers (like Jennifer, Hip as I Wanna Be and Jessica of The Unemployed Mom ) in an exclusive conference call with Uma Thurman. 30 mommy bloggers, PR reps, Uma Thurman, cell phones and someone watching Sesame Street in the background - I’m sure that gives you some idea of that the call was like.

Uma stars as Eliza Welch, a mother of two in New York City, who like all of us mothers, tries to do it all. She’s a former fiction writer who is struggling with her decision to be a stay at home mom (SAHM) and blogger. Sounds familiar right? Making the decision to stay home after working all that time? Uma really nails it when she talks about her character “She no longer feels like she recognizes herself as a person… as who she thought she was supposed to be. Those tiny grinding repetitive acts have let her lose herself.” (I totally agree with you on this Jennifer, WOW.) Doesn’t that sound, um familiar?!?!

I had the opportunity to ask Uma about her on and off screen relationship with fellow actor Anthony Edwards. She had nothing but praise for him, that he was both a wonderful actor and father.

Uma is a mom in real life too, so it was easy to identify with her on the mom level (not so sure about the movie star level, but a girl can dream, right?) She’s just like any other mom; she talked about how being a mother means you sometimes lose a bit of yourself. I know we can all relate to that – being a mom is hard work! One thing is for sure, once you become a mom you are never the same, whether you are a mommy blogger on a social networking site or a movie star. MOTHERHOOD is a movie about a REAL mom. Thanks Hollywood! It’s about time!

Remember - Motherhood arrives in theaters on October 23. If you in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston or San Francisco areas, grab some mommy time and head out to see this flick! For the rest of us who live in other cities, the hope is for a wide release the weekend of October 30. My plan is to grab the girlfriends and go!
