We all know what it's like to be tired, right?
Hey, we're parents it comes with the territory.
Those early days with an infant are TOUGH, the lack of sleep is probably the hardest thing we deal with as parents of a newborn. That's just how newborns are, they wake often and feed often. Therefor we wake often and feed them often. By tending to these needs we are doing the best for our children.
But at what point does the sleep deprivation start having a detrimental effect on you?
Infant and toddler sleep problems have been proven to have a detrimental effect on parental mood (i.e. Depression and anxiety), marital satisfaction and parental stress level.
Well, it's only for a short time right? We'll cope, we'll manage.
Not always, I am being called to work with clients who haven't had a full nights sleep in 3 + years. They are at the end of their tether. They call me in as a last resort.
Now look at what sleep deprivation means to your child.
Increasing evidence shows that sleep disruption or lack of sleep is harmful to children’s learning ability, concentration, mood, attention, behavior. Sleep deprivation in children has been linked to, lowered immune systems, diabetes, depression, obesity, hindered physical development, stress and anxiety.
Worth waiting 3 + years before you do something about your child's sleep?
No probably not.
You don't need to hire a sleep coach to help you and your child to get a good nights sleep.
Over the next 3 Saturdays I will be posting a series of sleep articles to help you, help your child sleep better at night and all without leaving them to cry it out!
If you don't think you can wait for the next 3 weeks, you can submit a question to my 'Finally get some sleep' radio show. The show airs on Monday August 2nd at 2 pm on KKNW 1150 AM. I answer as many of your questions as I can live on air.
You can submit questions by following the link

You can always listen to the podcast of the show if you're unable to listen in live.
Let's get some of your sleep questions answered.

I am quickly approaching the 3 year mark. While my daughter is sleeping better, we are still to get thru the night without at least 1 wake up. Then there is the fact that she wakes between 5 and 5:30 every morning, including weekends! I will be watching the series for how to get thru this! | Wed, 07/28/2010 - 2:12pm |
